Semi Permanent Hair Dyes

Semi Permanent Hair Dyes – what are they?

We are often asked if the semi permanent dyes we sell are ‘vegetable dyes’ or if we sell permanent hair dyes.  The short answer to both is no, at present we only sell semi-permanent dyes.  The three main types of hair dye are Vegetable, Semi-Permanent & Permanent and a brief description of each of these can be seen below:

Semi Permanent Hair Dyes:

This is the type of dye currently available on the Beeunique website.  These do not permanently change the hair colour but rather coat the hair shaft and temporary change the overall shade.  Semi-Permanent Dyes are often called ‘veggie’ dyes in relation to most of them being vegan friendly which could explain why many people confuse them with vegetable dyes which are in fact made from plants.

These type of dyes do not need mixed with anything, can be used straight away and contain no ammonia.  If you do not have light coloured hair or do not wish to bleach your hair you can still use these dyes but the results will not be as vibrant so best trying a strand test first.  Some of the deeper/darker hair colours may show up on unbleached hair but it is unlikely to be as vibrant as on lighter hair colours, and may only given a sheen of colour. We have a section in the Hair Dye Gallery showing how the colours can look on Unbleached Hair

Semi Permanent dyes can last anywhere from 1 wash to several months, it all depends on the brand, the colour being used as well as the porosity of your hair.  The following pages can help you further with how long each brand tends to last and how to get the best results from your dye – Hair Dye FAQ and Hair Dye Tips

Vegetable Hair Dyes:

Vegetable hair dyes are made with plants such as Henna and Camomile.  They don’t tend to make more subtle changes to the hair and certainly not the kind of neon results brands like Manic Panic & Directions are known for.  Camomile is normally used to bring a sun-kissed look to hair, such as lighter streaks in fair hair whereas Henna usually brings out red tones in darker hair.  We do not currently sell these type hair dyes on Beeunique.

Permanent Hair Dyes:

These type of dyes are often called ‘box dyes’ and they will permanently change the hair colour.  They usually contain chemicals to lighten the hair so can give drastic results to the hair.  Eventually the hair will need to be re-bleached, dyed over or grown out.  Some manufacturers make permanent hair dyes in neon colours like bright pink and red etc, however despite being called ‘permanent’ these do tend to fade over time and don’t tend to give the truly neon results that semi-permanent dyes can. Any product that contains chemicals such as permanent dyes and bleach can damage the hair if used incorrectly or too often.  At this time we do not sell any permanent hair dyes.

Headshot Hair Dye

Headshot Hair Dye is a well known and popular brand from Germany that has been around for many years.  After researching this online we decided to add it to the Beeunique range of brands we sell.  All 23 colours in the range are on order and should be in stock in around a week.

The colours range from neon pink to sleek silvery grey.  They even include a handy matrix base that can be mixed with the other shades to create new lighter, pastel tones for you to try.  Headshot Dye comes in 150ml bottles so larger than most other semi-permanent hair dyes.  After use these can be sealed and used later for top-ups or further dye applications.

You can view the full range of colours on our website – Headshot Hair Dye

Manic Panic Mini Hair Dyes have now been added to the Beeunique website.  These are very handy if you wish to try out a new colour or brand before buying the larger 118ml pots.

We are always being asked for testers of the dyes we sell but are unable to do this.  The cost involved in buying smaller containers, adding all the relevant safety and ingredient information would be too high. Not to mention the question of copyright belonging to the manufacturer!  We are therefore very pleased that Manic Panic have taken the lead and created these mini/tester hair dye tubes.  Hopefully more hair dye manufacturers will copy this fantastic idea.

Manic Panic Mini Tester Hair Dyes are only 25ml so ideal for smaller areas of hair e.g. streaks or as part of a rainbow.  As with all Manic Panic products you can mix them with mixer/toner to create a more pastel shade, or mix colours together to create unique new shades.

These mini dyes are on order now and should be in stock by the end of the week (3rd April).  You can purchase them here – Manic Panic Mini Hair Dyes

Special Effects are Closing

Yes, sadly the rumours are true, Special Effects are closing!
We found this out late last week but wanted to know more before posting and causing a hair dye stampede.

Why Special Effects are closing:

Special Effects want to make it clear that they are chosing to close at this time and it ‘may’ not be forever.  They moved premises a couple of years ago and this caused a huge backlog in dye production which they were still playing catchup with.  Their new premises are now being sold which means another move and they simply cannot deal with yet another move and keep up with making their hair dye so decided to close while they decide what to do in the future.  I would like to stress that if they do decide to open up again then it will be at least a year or more as they would need to find new premises, set it up and then stock-up on colours.  They have us on their contact list and have assured me they will call when or if they know anymore, but for the time being they are definitely closed.

What Colours are still available?

Another reason for our delay in posting this was to find out what colours they can still ship and we are pleased to say we have an order for over £20,000 placed with them.  This new order should arrive within 2-3 weeks and will include the following colours: Blood Red, Blue Haired Freak, Blue Mayhem, Burgundy Wine, Candy Apple Red, Cherry Bomb, Cupcake Pink, Deep Purple, Devilish, Fish Bowl, Hi-Octange Orange, Hot Lava, Iguana Green, Joyride, Nuclear Red, Purple Smoke, Sonic Green, Wildflower & Toner.

They have none of their other colours in stock and wont be making them again before they close.

You can buy the available dyes or sign up for a ‘back in stock’ email notification in our Special Effects Hair Dye category

Lydia Lavender

Rosemary Mauve

Both are in stock on Beeunique and can be purchased now.

Crazy Color Power is a new way to create your own hair dye shades.

It’s easy – you choose a base from Crazy Color New HoldUp Shampoo, Crazy Color Rainbow Conditioner or Crazy Color Neutral/Mixer.  Next choose one or more of the concentrated pigments – red, yellow, blue, purple or pink.  Add 1 pump of pigment to 20ml of shampoo or conditioner, mix well and apply!

Crazy Color Hype - The Bases

For pastel shades you can use less pigment or you can add more than one pigment e.g. red and yellow to start creating orange shades.  The possibilities are endless, you can even create several hues of the same colour by varying the amount of pigment used!

Both the HoldUp Shampoo and Rainbow Conditioner come in 250ml bottles while the pigments are a handy sized 50ml, but you only need 1 pump of pigment in 20ml of shampoo or conditioner to create your own hair dye!

Whilst we at Beeunique love hair in neon shades and styles, not all wokplaces do, so Crazy Color Power is ideal for weekends and holidays as they last around 3-5 washes.  Ideal to show of your wild side at the weekend or for nights out before going back to the normality of the 9 to 5!

There are other ways to use the pigments such as creating your own colour spray or mixing with your mousse or wax, and you can see more information on this on our All About Crazy Color Power faq page

You can use these to create new dyes or for topping up existing colours and as with all semi-permanent hair dyes, these will work best on prelightened hair.

These are salt and sulfate free as well as vegan friendly & cruelty free

These will be in stock in approx 1 week on our website, and as always you can sign up for an ‘in stock’ notification to be emailed as soon as these arrive …Crazy Color Power on Beeunique website.

This product was previously called Crazy Color HYPE – bottles may show the original ‘hype’ or new ‘power’ logo but they are the same product

Manic Panic Amplified Colours

Manic Panic Amplified colours are being changed to ensure they fully comply with EU regulations on hair dye ingredients.  Due to this several Manic Panic Amplified colours are out of stock with no due date being given at this time.
